Elegant Solutions to Interesting Problems

Occam\’s Razor applied to technology

So, what’s all this then?

There’s an old Chinese curse that goes something like this:

“May you live in interesting times.”

Doesn’t sound too bad, does it? The curse part creeps in when you start wondering what their definition of “interesting” is.

A friend of mine once applied this directly to software engineering and technology. He said that he always became worried whenever someone used one of three phrases:

  • You know, I just had a neat idea….
  • Sounds like a fun project
  • Now here’s an interesting problem

Now, I’m a believer in the “Occam’s Razor” of software and technology: “A simple, elegant solution will do a better job than a more complex solution.” That’s what this blog is about: finding those Elegant Solutions that we all need so badly.
